Clear Lake Shores, Texas - Photo by Marc McKinney

Clear Lake Shores was promoted as a weekend retreat for families from Houston and Galveston. In the 1920s, it was divided into small lots, giving all owners would have equal access to the beaches. This business venture did not succeed, especially due to the onset of the Great Depression of the 1930s. After World War II, as more people moved into the area, more land was sold and permanent homes were built.
